Sober dance parties in South East London

Ecstatic Dance - Sober clubbing

Join the Resistance @ Plot 9 Maze Hill on 11 Sept @ 19:00! Book hereEcstatic dance is a freeform, music-driven movement practice where you’re invited to let go, move however your body feels, with whoever you want, including by yourself, and fully immerse yourself in the rhythms without judgment or expectation. Unlike traditional dance classes or club settings, there are no set steps, no talking on the dance floor, and no need to perform — it’s all about self-expression, connection, and presence. After a short guided optional warm-up, the experience begins with gentle music, gradually building into energetic, uplifting beats, and then winding down into softer, grounding sounds, creating a natural journey through movement. You have the freedom to dance entirely on your own or to connect and share movement with others if it feels right in the moment.People come to ecstatic dance for different reasons: some to release stress, some to explore creativity, and others simply to enjoy the sense of community with like-minded people in a welcoming, supportive space. It can feel like both a workout and a meditation, leaving you energized, clear-headed, and deeply connected to yourself and the group around you. Whether you love dancing or think you “can’t dance", ecstatic dance is for everyone — it’s not about how you look, but how you feel.Listen to my music on Mixcloud to get an idea of the vibe.

My dance story

Dance has been an important part of my life ever since I remember. My first memory of a favourite clothing item is a skirt I had which flew up when I was spinning. I loved it so much, that my mother had to sew a bigger one when I grew out of it.Once I was big enough to receive formal education, I learned ballet, then I joined a folk dance group in my school. Later, I did ballroom and latin dancing, even entered some competitions (though our school focused on the improvisation and social aspects of dancing, rather than looking perfect from the outside, which I greatly appreciate to this day.)After I moved to London, I found west coast swing, which is an improvisational partnered style danced to different modern genres like pop and RnB. Each dance is different, it's a conversation between the leader and the follower.Later, I also fell in love with Brazilian zouk, which is a beautiful dance using a lot of organic movement. It has a lot of emphasis on using the breath, forming a deep connection with your partner, and moving the spine in all ways imaginable. And most recently, I discovered ecstatic dance where there are no formal rules, and can be danced both alone and with interacting with others (similarly to contact improvisation).
Lately, I started DJing for all 3 of these dances, accumulating a huge library of music of various genres, energies and moods.
Over the years, I learnt how to enjoy dancing to the fullest, and how to use it to benefit my mental health, and I would love to share this experience with you.
I love all 3 dances that I do, and in my sessions, I aim to steal the best of each style and merge them into a fun session, accessible to all without any previous dance experience.
