Sober dance parties in Kidbrooke
Ecstatic Dance - Sober clubbing
Imagine that you are going out dancing. Except it's a reasonable hour of the day, there are people of all ages, no one is drunk, no one is harassing you. The floor is not sticky. No one is judging how you move or how you are dressed. And you are welcome to connect with others, but also to go inward like a moving meditation, or take a break and stretch in the middle of the dance floor. And no one is talking loudly, so you can appreciate the music in its entirety! (There is a no chatter policy on the dance floor).Doesn't that just sound like the perfect evening out to treat yourself?
It's a great outlet for our access energy and stress. And on top of that, the music is really interesting. Ecstatic dance can encompass various genres, but it typically covers music from around the world from tribal music to drum and bass. The set follows a wave structure, starting with soft and gentle music to high energy tunes and back down. We kick off and end with a short meditation to connect to ourselves.COMING SOON - sign up to my maillist to get notified.

My dance story
Dance has been an important part of my life ever since I remember. My first memory of a favourite clothing item is a skirt I had which flew up when I was spinning. I loved it so much, that my mother had to sew a bigger one when I grew out of it.Once I was big enough to receive formal education, I learned ballet, then later I joined a folk dance group in my school. Later I did ballroom and latin dancing, even entered some competitions (though our school focused on the improvisation and social aspects of dancing, rather than looking perfect from outside, which I greatly appreciate to this day.)After I moved to London, I found west coast swing, which is an improvisative partnered style danced to different modern genres like pop and RnB. Each dance is different, it's a conversation between the leader and the follower.Later I also fell in love with Brazilian zouk, which is a beautiful dance using a lot of organic movement. It has a lot of emphasis on using the breath, forming a deep connection with your partner, and moving the spine in all ways imaginable. And most recently I discovered ecstatic dance where there are no formal rules, and can be danced both alone and with interacting with others (similarly to contact improvisation).
Lately, I started DJing for all 3 of these dances, accumulating a huge library of music of various genres, energies and moods.Again, I'm not the best dancer you'll ever meet, but I am definitely great at enjoying it to the fullest, and have learned how to use it to benefit my mental health, and would love to share this experience with you.
I love all these dances, and in my sessions, I aim to steal the best of each style and merge them into a fun session, accessible to all without any previous dance experience.
